Gabriela Solis Torres is an Assistant Director for the Government Performance Lab’s (GPL) Criminal Justice team where she leads the Alternative 911 Emergency Response Initiative. Through this initiative, Gabriela and her team have provided intensive technical assistance to 32 jurisdictions seeking to improve outcomes for residents by diverting 9-1-1 calls to unarmed trained professionals equipped to offer connection to supportive services. Gabriela and her team also lead a Community of Practice made up of upwards of over 95 governments undertaking implementation of alternative response teams. Prior to the GPL, Gabriela worked with the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Initiative to conduct data research to help advance advocacy efforts pertaining to domestic policy issues affecting communities of color and served as Co-Director of Case Management for Bruin Shelter, a shelter for college students experiencing homelessness.
Gabriela was born and raised in East Los Angeles, CA and is a proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and first-generation college graduate. She holds a BA in Gender Studies and Sociology and an MSW and MPP from UCLA.
