Judges in the North Las Vegas Justice Court wanted to understand if different racial and ethnic groups were experiencing disparate pretrial outcomes, such as trends in release conditions.
The GPL provided technical assistance to the Las Vegas Justice Court as a part of our 2023 Pretrial Initiative, prompting the North Las Vegas Justice Court to request similar support as a part of the 2024 Pretrial Initiative.
How the GPL is Supporting:
Building capacity among North Las Vegas Justice Court staff to collect data and manage a live dashboard on pretrial release conditions, including how those conditions vary across racial and ethnic groups.
Coaching judges to identify and incorporate insights from the data dashboard in their pretrial supervision decision-making processes with a goal of using the least restrictive means possible.
I'm thrilled that the Harvard Kennedy School Government Performance Lab will provide court staff with coaching and support to create dashboards and data tools related to pretrial outcomes, such as the court appearance rates of pretrial clients. This live feedback will improve my ability to make informed decisions about pretrial release and supervision conditions.Judge Belinda Harris
