Investing in the Homeless Response Workforce
Building Staff Capacity in Alameda County for Homelessness Prevention

Project Context:
- In order to better connect residents with housing and supportive services, homeless service providers often rely on administrative and programmatic data to monitor and evaluate outcomes for residents and connect residents with appropriate resources.
- However, many members of the homeless workforce are not equipped with the skills and tools to effectively use data to inform decision-making.
- Alameda County homelessness prevention service providers and system leaders have identified a need to develop stronger metrics and tracking mechanisms to ensure their programs have the maximum impact on residents.
How the GPL is Supporting:
- Training staff at housing-focused organizations across Alameda County on how to use data to inform decision-making and improve ongoing performance management of programs. The training curriculum includes lessons on data foundations, key performance indicators and continuous improvement, and unpacking and communicating data to diverse audiences.
- Providing project-based coaching to three organizations in Alameda County to apply skills learned in trainings to advance specific homelessness prevention initiatives in their organizations.
