Mike worked as a Government Innovation Fellow supportingĀ the State of Maryland and City of Baltimore with developing innovative financial and active contract management methods related to public safety and wellness. Mike began his career as a gang interventionist at Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, going on to receive a Master’s of Public Policy and a Master’s of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago, where he focused on the economics of crime and criminal justice. While in graduate school, he consulted on violence prevention programming in Nairobi and San Salvador and worked as a research assistant at the University of Chicago Crime Lab and CureViolence/CeaseFire. Mike also managed local political and public affairs campaigns in Northern California and was a Policy Fellow at the Coalition for Public Safety in Washington, D.C., creating bipartisan support for prison and criminal justice reform.
