Marianna Yamamoto is a Project Leader at the GPL, where she works on diversions and alternatives to the criminal justice system as part of the Alternative 911 Emergency Response (A-9ER) Initiative. This work seeks to improve resident outcomes by diverting 9-1-1 calls to unarmed trained professionals equipped to de-escalate crises and connect residents to community-based resources. As a Fellow at the GPL, she supported Allegheny County, Alameda County, Madison, Dane County, and the San Gabriel Valley in planning, launching, and scaling A-9ER programs.

Marianna brings experience in the health, human services, and civic engagement fields from her work with community-based organizations, local government, and state government in California. Before joining the GPL, Marianna was a Policy Fellow with California Health Policy Strategies, where she conducted research on Medi-Cal program reforms.

Marianna holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the U.C. Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan. Marianna is a proud daughter of immigrants with roots in Michigan, Japan, and Venezuela. Marianna lives in Los Angeles and enjoys travelling, rock climbing, and camping in her free time.
