Jess Lanney was an Assistant Director for the Government Performance Lab. She lead a GPL team working with the State of New Hampshire to design and implement strategic initiatives as part of a broader transformation of the State’s child welfare system, and also supports a home visiting Pay for Success project in South Carolina. In 2017, she launched the GPL’s multi-year project with the City of Chicago’s Department of Family and Support Services focused on overhauling the department’s approach to strategic procurement and improving outcomes for homeless shelter contracts. Prior to joining the GPL, she managed nonprofit consulting teams as a Case Team Leader at The Bridgespan Group in Boston. At Bridgespan, Jess worked with a variety of US nonprofits and foundations (including the YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs, Gates Foundation, and Ford Foundation) and helped lead the firm’s strategy work for national nonprofit networks and initiative to end the “overhead fiction” in nonprofit funding. She holds an A.B. from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and two masters degrees in social policy and urban planning from the London School of Economics as a Marshall Scholar. Jess is a Concord, NH native.
