Asma Afzal was a Government Innovation Fellow supporting cities across the United States in making their procurement practices more efficient, effective, and equitable as part of the What Works Cities initiative. Prior to joining the GPL, as a summer policy fellow with the Urban Leaders Fellowship in Oakland, Asma worked with the Director of Homelessness at the Mayor’s office to develop a set of policy implementation and improvement tools to better manage 50+ homeless encampments in the city. In the past, Asma has worked with governments in Pakistan to develop and execute strategies that improve the quality of public healthcare and increase healthcare access to populations from lower-income groups.

Asma graduated with a Master of Public Policy with a Certificate in Data Analytics from the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy in June 2021. In her free time, Asma likes to cook, play board games, and incessantly sing songs from Hamilton.
